Spring Blooming Perennial Plants

Pinchushion Flower 'Butterfly Blue' After a long cold winter, a perennial plant just beginning to poke its head through the earth's surface is a welcome sight. There are many flowering bulbs that can be planted in the fall to produce beautiful spring flowers in abundance. This is a great way to add color to your Spring garden.

Another way to bring color to your garden in Spring is by planting perennials (plants that have a life cycle lasting from several years to many years). Many perennials are just breaking dormancy in Spring and won't be blooming until Summer or Fall, however, there are quite a few, such as the pincushion flower (right) that produce an abundance of flowers during Spring. Helleborus, Bleeding Heart, Columbines, Iris, are others to name a few.

You can obtain perennial plants by purchasing them at your local garden center, which is an excellent method since they will be able to provide information on what plants do well in your specific location.

Below you will find a listing of Spring blooming perennial plants. Click on any link or thumbnail image to see an expanded Plant File that contains a detailed plant description, usage suggestions and instructions for care.
